Our Vision

Our school is a Safe, welcoming place where everyone, including the vulnerable, are valued, nurtured and encouraged.

Enquiring minds grow ‘a Love of learning’; become fluent readers; and appreciate the world, themselves and others.

Our rich, creative curriculum provides time and space for the mind to grow, and spirit to Flourish.

Markington School dates back to 1789 when it was founded by the Wilberforce family. The school remains on the same site and has been extended and modernised to provide 4 classrooms and two playgrounds.

Our school is currently rated 'Good' by Ofsted and we are proud to offer small classes with a low child to adult ratio.

We are a Church of England school and our "nurturing and inclusive atmosphere, based on christian values, means that all members of the community feel safe and encouraged to be the best they can be. Behaviour and relationships are exemplary....the staff know every hair on each pupil's head". (SIAMs Report 2019)

In addition to the school site, we use the Village Institute for PE and drama. The village has excellent sports facilities with an all-weather games area, cricket and football pitches.

We have close links with our vicar, Rev. Paul, and to St. Michael’s Church in the village.

Read more about our curriculum INTENT and how this is implemented in school by clicking on the 'Information' tab at the top of the page.

We welcome children, from 3 years old, to our school nursery class and we  prioritise small class sizes and high quality provision - although, like all small schools, our class structures may change.

As children reach the end of their primary education, they transition to a range of independent, selective and state schools in the Harrogate and Ripon area. We work closely with these schools to ensure a positive transition for all children.

We offer extended school provision both before and after school.

Early Birds Breakfast Club runs from 7:45am to 8:45am from Monday to Friday, and

Busy Bees After School Club runs from 3:15pm to 5:30pm from Monday to Thursday.

We also run a range of other school clubs such as sewing club, gardening club and sports club.
